Vessels managed by Bahr Shipping are maintained to the highest standards by our team of experts, driven by the aim for greater operating efficiency and commercial success without compromising on safety and quality.
We strive to maintain excellence in our vessel performance inspections. As a progressive ship manager, we adopt the mindset to continuously improve our processes and systems to create a safe and efficient environment onboard that supports our crew.
The Technical Department at Bahr Shipping oversees and supports all technical operations of the vessels in the Bahr Shipping fleets.
A key element for the success of a modern Gas Carrier Management Company is its strict adherence to the relevant rules /regulations and industry standards as well as the adoption of voluntary environmental and safety measures. This coupled with a well-planned proactive maintenance program for the vessels, their equipment, and systems, results in maximizing the availability of the fleet, minimizing costly repairs, and providing to our charterers a safe, high-quality, reliable shipping service.
Close co-operation between Bahr Shipping’s Technical Department and the other Departments within Bahr Shipping, along with outside organizations, is a must for supporting proper operations.
The Technical Department staff oversees the above activities with commitment and efficiency. Bahr Shipping’s Technical team is comprised of Superintendents and Fleet Managers whose qualifications range from well-experienced ex-Chief Engineers having practical (hands-on) knowledge to University Graduates in relevant fields who provide the required theoretical and analytical skills. Together they bring to Bahr Shipping and its customers, specialized knowledge and experience in the design, construction, and operation of Gas Carriers.

A ship-to-ship (STS) transfer operation is the transfer of cargo between seagoing ships positioned alongside each other, either while stationary or underway. Cargoes typically transferred via STS methods include crude oil, liquefied gas (LPG), bulk cargo, and petroleum products.
Most cargo operations are taking place between a ship and a land-based terminal. Nevertheless, it sometimes can be useful to transfer cargo from one ship to another in the open sea and this is called a ship-to-ship operation. At that moment, one of them will act as the terminal where the other one will moor. The receiving ship is called the mother vessel.
Regulations
These operations are carried out in accordance with guidelines set out by the Oil Companies International MARINE Forum and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), with the strictest adherence to safety regulations.
According to International Maritime Organization regulations vessels transferring OIL, CARGO must have an approved STS operational manual that describes the procedure. These manuals should be available onboard not later than the first annual, intermediate or special survey after 1 January 2011. These manuals can be prepared either by the shipping company or external consultants.
We undertake to coordinate this activity on behalf of owners, charterers, and managers as agents.

BAHR SHIPPING Corporate Services sets out to assist MARINE-based organizations to investigate the potential, discover opportunities and develop, grow and sustain their businesses.
BAHR SHIPPING strives to ensure all its vessels which are at their peak conditions for safe and reliable operations. As such, our vessels undergo regular dry-docking and maintenance to ensure they are in excellent condition to transport clean energy across the globe.
Dry-docking is an essential and integral part of maintaining a vessel because:
- it is part of a vessel’s life cycle maintenance
- ensures optimal performance
- ultimately plays a key role in enabling safe and reliable operations
- it is a regulatory requirement by the vessel Flag State and for certification by the Classification society
Typically, vessels are scheduled for dry-dock once every five years for a special survey. Nevertheless, midway surveys may be conducted in between the dry-docking periods for various inspections, maintenance, and repairs of the underwater structure of the vessel.
Bahr Shipping Survey Services is involved in a wide variety of projects on every type of vessel, including deep sea and short sea vessels, tankers, superyachts, bulk carriers, LPG carriers, refrigerated cargo ships, tugs, and offshore vessels.
As with every consultant within the BAHR SHIPPING group, all our surveyors are fully qualified MARINE engineers, masters, and naval architects, with extensive seagoing, ship management, and design experience.
We understand the need for fast and flexible service and therefore provide a worldwide rapid response program delivering consistent, professional, and efficient surveys on all categories of MARINE survey, including:
- Pre-Purchase Inspections – providing full condition reports,
- tender evaluation and assistance with contract negotiations and sale dockings
Some shipowners prefer to place their ships under the management of specialist companies who manage the vessels. This might be because the owner does not have the resources or experience to manage the ship properly, or the company has only a few ships and it is difficult to operate a few ships economically while retaining all the necessary management departments ashore. The benefits – particularly to owners of small fleets – of placing their ships under ship management companies include the following:
- The management company – which probably has a number of other ships under its control – can negotiate better deals on bunker purchases, supplies of stores, drydocking fees, and even canal transit tariffs. (A two-ship owner would not get as good a deal from a supplier as a management company that may be negotiating to buy supplies or to arrange drydocking or refits for 20 or 30 ships.)
- The shipowner may have no experience in shipping and can benefit from the expertise of those in the management company. This is particularly important with regard to legal, technical, and operational issues
